I tested with success the Genius VideoCam Express in Linux RedHat v9.0. I used the ov511 and I got a very good image in the Genomemeeting.

The 0x0458:0x7004 chip is not supported by the ov511 driver. It appears to be a custom chip made by Genius (0x0458 is their Vendor ID). I don't believe that there's any Linux support for that chip yet. |

I think I got the same problem as you Alvaro. The device is supposed to be 05a9:0511 but, when I look at /proc/bus/usb/devices I read this line:
P: Vendor=0458 ProdID=7004 Rev= 1.00
So I don't know which driver should I use, because it seemd that ov511 it's not going to work... I've been working on it for many hours and I can get any solution, so it would be great if anybody could tell me if exists any solution or if it's just that the webcam is not compatible with Linux...
Thanks a lot, any replies are welcome. |

Aliban:
I have problems with my Genius VideoCam Express (many hours trying that it work). I think that you maybe could help me.
What versions are you using: kernel?, ov511?, v4l or v4l2?, SO
(RedHat, SuSe, etc)?.
I can't avoid the "/dev/videoX" not found or not open (depending on apps), and "lsusb" and "dmesg" messages are notso good ( usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout, usbdevfs:USDEVFS_CONTROL failed ... ret -110). Also,
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices shows "Driver=(none)".
"lsmod" messages seems good.
Some ideas. Very thanks. Alvaro Sánchez.
