CommentWorks well with Linux 2.4.x and 2.5.x. OSS tested. Alsa not tested -- should also work flawlessly. Board can be easily assembled with insturctions by the Elektor magazine (12/2002). Available all over Europe I guess.

2006-08-16 16:31:51 I just registered to answer to "christian lopes" the post is 2 years old but it is still get hits from Google!! The Pcm2902 is a great usb dac! it isn't "high end" but it has good enough sound to cover the needs of someone who wants to hear a couple of songs with descent sound quality! these results are from a guy's "PCM2902 USB DAC project" frequency Response, db: +0,15, -0,05 noise level, dbA: -85,5 dynamic range, dbA: 85,0 THD %: 0,0089 IMD+ Noice, %: 0,018 stereo crosstalk, db: -88,9 for the test results he used RMAA. there are many projects out there with better performances than this! it surely deserves to build it!

2005-02-16 13:31:57 Hi, i built the elektor circuit for PCM2902 chip and tried succesfully under windows. On linux, 2.6.9 kernel says this when i plug my board: usbaudio: registered dsp 14,3 usbaudio: constructing mixer for Terminal 2 type 0x0301 usbaudio: registered mixer 14,0 usbaudio: constructing mixer for Terminal 5 type 0x0101 usbaudio: no mixer controls found for Terminal 5 usb_audio_parsecontrol: usb_audio_state at c1661780 input: USB HID v1.00 Device [Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC ] on usb-0000:00:1d.3-2 lsusb output: Bus 005 Device 009: ID 08bb:2902 Texas Instruments Japan But /proc/asound/cards says nothing about the card and I can't get the sound recording working (sound-recorder, brec can't finish the recording and they set no samples into the files ). Thanks in advance for any help given. Daniel

2004-09-15 23:50:13 This circuit 2902 is bull shit, particulary if you try using the S/pdif input, in this case the USB data stream is blocked. Furthermore this circuit didnt complies with the S/pdif spécification, as he said Cmos 3,3 V Level, when the S/pdif is a 0,5 V pp signal symetrical to ground, just to let you imagine the auxillary circuitry needed to bring the signal to the cmos (?) level. Concerning the DAC input, it seams to be a little bit noisy (white noise, plus some logical clicks). I will not recommand this circuit, for the spdif to USb interface netheir as ADC to USB. 2004-04-23 16:00:38 There is no need for that. Not on my system. I am using the 2902 with linux 2.6/alsa since the beginning of the 2.6 series. I did not have any problems with hid.ko. -- Timo

2004-03-21 20:09:05 It works with ALSA, but since kernel 2.6.x there is a (minor) problem: The device also trys to load the hid.ko module (i guess because of the volume up/down and mute "keys") which prevents it from working (i dont know why). Solutions: a) make hid.ko inaccessible for modprobe b) patch drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c (insert the vid/pid to the blacklist)
