CommentRumors say Nokia is working on a Linux driver, but I haven't been able to confirm it.

2005-04-02 10:55:46 all the cables dku-5 do not use the chip of the prolific. in my case use a chip of the Texas instrument of which the e' available module for kernel on a situated partner of Texas search on the situated one it will lead you to the link exact. linux:~ # gammu --identify Manufacturer : Nokia Model : 3100 (RH-19) Firmware : 05.02 C (14-01-04) Hardware : 4935 IMEI : Original IMEI : Manufactured : 06/2004 Product code : UEM : 8 All is correct.

2004-08-14 00:22:33 The "fact" that the device contains a general CPU (atmel) means that it's quite likely that Nokia developed something themselves, not compatible with anything in existance. If it doesn't work with usbserial, or pl2303 first try, then it won't work at all. Don't hold your breath.

2004-05-14 11:29:23 Hi everybody.I would like to know as to what the serial bus is got to do with the USB interface since the host should be able to control the device.Hence the cable should definitely comply with the USB standards. All that is left is to analyze the device requests.what do u say??

2004-05-11 22:32:42 I sent an email to Nokia, asking if they were working on any linux driver for the DKU-5 cable. Here's their reply: "We appreciate your inquiry regarding Linux drivers for the Nokia DKU-5 USB data cable. We are happy to assist you with your request. Nokia software for the Nokia 2285 phone and the Nokia DKU-5 USB Data cable is compatible with most Microsoft Windows operating systems. The user guide for your phone and PC Suite contains information that is more detailed. The software is not currently compatible with Linux operating systems. Please note: At this time, Nokia is not working on any Linux drivers. New software for Nokia phones is listed in the Support section of our web site, www.nokia.com/us. Please visit periodically to learn about updated information for Nokia products." This was from Nokia USA. I'll try to contact Nokia Finland, maybe they know better.

2004-05-11 22:26:24 Some Mac sites state that the DKU-5 cable uses the Prolific Pl-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller (http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/Products.asp?ID=59), so it works with the pl2303 driver in OS X and Linux. I edited the driver to include the VendorId and ProductId (as they did on OS X). Now when I plug the cable, it is assigned a driver and /dev/ttyUSB0 appears. Testing communication with kppp sends no errors, but I am unable to dial or send any commands to the modem (Nokia 2280).

2004-05-10 00:32:47 I've dissected my DKU-5 and have found an Atmel AT76C711 USB controller and an Atmel AT45DB011B DataFlash. The DataFlash chip is probably holding program code for the USB controller, which means that it doesn't need external firmware to run. I am now short one DKU-5 cable.
