CommentThis modem seems to work perfectly with the slmdm driver from SmartLink. It does not work with the slmodem driver. lsusb reports it as a SGS Thomson modem, but it is often rebranded differently. My one is branded as "Speedcom+ USB". The chipset I believe is ST7554. Get the slmdm driver from SmartLink, unpack the tar file and follow the install instructions in the README. I am currently using it as a modem and fax server with Linux kernel 2.4.25 without problems.
