2002-02-10 22:03:44 I have installed it with kernel 2.2.19 and had the following problem: Feb 10 19:51:28 tikva kernel: usb.c: USB new device connect, assigned device number 2 Feb 10 19:51:31 tikva kernel: usb.c: USB new device connect, assigned device number -1 Feb 10 19:51:31 tikva kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device -1 each time I tried to connect the scanner. As mentioned in the FAQ, I inverted the positions of my PCI ethernet controller and the PCI USB controller on the motherboard and everything went OK.

2001-08-26 17:39:52 Epson frequently does two versions; a USB one, with a part number ending in U, and a SCSI one, with a part number ending in S. HTH

2001-08-05 14:27:18 The 1240U is recognized by the system (Linux 2.4.7) and scanimage (sane 1.0.4) starts scanning (the various options work, too). But I always get an USB read timeout with uhci.o as well as with usb-uhci.o. I am using the evergreen mainboard Asus P55T2P4 (updated BIOS 2.07) with an Intel 82371SB USB controller. Are there known problems with this setup? By the way: my 1240U has only an USB interface. On some websites I saw mentioned the same model with a SCSI interface. What does this mean?

2001-07-25 16:05:26 Have installed all of the infirmation from SANE for the 1240u.Still M-8.0? will not recognize nor permit the useof the scanner. Does m-8.0 actually support usb for scanners?

2001-05-29 18:12:41 Works very well, including the TPU (negatives, Color & BW and positive color transparencies). Documents were good at getting it going for both the USB setup and SANE/Xsane setups. I changed the timeout value in the kernels scanner.h so it would scan at a resolution of 1200, increased RD_NAK_TIMEOUT to (20*HZ). Highly recommended!

2001-04-19 13:14:20 The Scanner works fine. Just load the module "scanner" and edit the files /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and /etc/sane.d/epson.conf. If you don't find any /dev/usbscanner, just create a link to /dev/usb/scanner0.

2001-04-08 08:33:57 I have a similary problem under RH7 , all seems good but no message from usb.c when loading scanner module. Under usbview tool , i see a correct usb config. I do not find any /dev/usbscanner file , is it normal ?

2001-04-05 14:44:59 Works fine on debian 2.2r2!!! I use these commands: modprobe usb-uhci insmod scanner option vendor=0x04b8 product=0x010b scanimage then run xsane...

2001-04-05 06:04:40 I am having problems getting the scanner module to recognize my 1240U. I can see it in /proc/bus/usb/devices. It shows the right Vendor & Product ids. When I load the scanner module there is no report about the device. usb.c: registered new driver usbscanner scanner.c: USB Scanner support registered. That is all I get. Windows 98 sees and works fine.

2001-04-02 10:10:20 This scanner works excellent with Linux and it's much faster and better quality than ANY others I've used. Make sure when you load your module that you pass the vendor and product ID to it. You can find it in the /proc/bus/usb/devices file.

2001-02-23 00:42:47 Yes, SANE works just fine. And the TPU works as well! Highly recommended!

2000-12-19 17:50:46 My new Epson 1240U works very well; one little caveat, however : be sure that the only enabled backend which can touch your scanner's device node (such as /dev/usbscanner0) is the epson one. I've lost one day and some of K.H.Kremer's cycles because the abaton backend was choking on the epson device. Moral: censor your dll.conf or clean your /dev (kill that stupid /dev/scanner symlink) or RTFM better than I did (RTFM at all, in fact).

2000-10-30 19:22:01 can anyone confirm that the Epson Perfection 1240U works well with Sane?
