On Gentoo, with 2.6.22 I installed media-video/gspcav1-20071224 then modprobe gspca. Also installed media-video/spcaview-20061208 which is a viewer. Running spcaview -b to adjust brightness was the only way to make the scene visible at all (60W incandescant bulb) - it was still very dark. Took it back to the shop as useless so I never tried it in daytime.
