Working fine with Linux version 2.6.3 ( Mandrake 10)
I've put in epson.conf only this :
usb
and scanimage -L recognize it as :
device `epson:libusb:002:002' is a Epson Perfection640 flatbed scanner

It is working on a Debian 2.3 system with kernel 2.4.2. In order to get it to work I had to compile the scanner-module. Before inserting it I had to make the device with 'mknod /dev/usbscanner0 c 180 48' and `ln -s /dev/usbscanner0 /dev/usbscanner`. I inserted the module using modconf with the options 'vendor=0x04b8 product=0x010c'. Then I had to change /etc/sane.d/epson.conf. I commented out the line 'scsi EPSON' and uncommented 'usb /dev/usbscanner'. Then xsane found the scanner and it worked fine. |

Working fine on Debian 2.2 with xsane (standalone and as GIMP plugin) after adding the device ID to the scanner.h file in 2.2.18 and 2.2.19. Very nice performance.
You'd think they could add the bloody device IDs to backports though. |
