It seems to be necessary to mount the player with the "sync" option (i.e. "mount -t vfat -o sync /dev/sda1 /some/where" or some appropriate line in /etc/fstab). Without this option, the files will be copied into a buffer and won't be copied to the player until it is umounted or the buffer is full ("cp" returns immediately). This causes the usb driver to get stuck sometimes, so you can neither umount the player nor reboot (I had this problem with kernel 2.4.20 and player firmware 2.22). |

DIVA mp3 players with firmware 2.21 and 2.22 now have
usb id 0x3579:0x6901, there is a new comment available listed under that id.
Nevertheless, I am still having problems with kernel 2.4.20 an the DIVA player, especially when uploading a lot of files to the CF card. |

I have similar problem as Phill Coxon. I have newest firmware, so it works with new kernels, but it hangs while I am copying files to my new Viking 256 MB CF card. Well, in fact computer does not hang, just cp (or mc or whatever) goes into uninterruptible sleep together with usb and scsi modules, additionaly shutdown no longer works so hard reboot is necessary. Internal memory works OK, other CF card as well, Diva + Viking card under windows - no problems either. I am going to compile USB debugging into kernel today and maybe send some bug report to linux-usb list. Ah, yes, I have USB 1.1 port, so it is not a problem with USB 2.0 |

Okay, so I'm still having problems. The Diva mounts and unmounts just fine, but copying is really weird. I start a copy and if I'm using a GUI that indicates the copy progress it zooms along and claims it's finished in a matter of seconds, BUT - the diva hasn't yet started copying the data. If I unmount, or wait a while, it usually starts copying the data across (the data symbol appears on the diva). The trouble is that it sometimes hangs - at best, just requirning an unmount and mount, at worst, completely locking up my entire computer. :-( I get the impression it may be trying to copy the data at USB 2 speeds of 12Mb / s instead of USB 1 speeds. Is there any way to force it to slow down? |

I've just upgraded my MP3064W to the version 2.21 firmware. Plugged it into my Mandrake 9 system, and it was recognised instantly. Mandrake even added an entry to /etc/fstab automatically to mount it on /mnt/removeable! It recognises either the 64Mb internal memory, or my 256Mb Compact Flash card but not both at the same time, so no accessing the internal memory data with a card inserted. It works great (at last!). |

My diva used to work with my old Mandrake Linux (8.0) but I don't know how to get it running in MDK 9 which I installed the other day. When I plug in the cable, the diva just starts playing and when I try to mount it it says "mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device". Any pointers of what I need to start or test? It seems like the usb support in MDK 9 is not the same as in 8.0. In 8.0 I had to start the usbs AND usb services. Now there is only a usb service.
More info: I have sth called hotplug installed. Myabe this interfer with what I want to do?
Even more: strange. Now I managed to mount it, one time out of twenty, and only by connecting and disconnecting the cable from the player multiple times. Suddenly it did not start play and instead showed the "USB" status in the LCD windows. Why does it behave so strange?

There's a new firmware upgrade (2.21) at:
http://www.daisymm.com/versions/en_version/support/upgrades.html
that says it supports USB2.0 (I haven't got the hardware to test this) and seems to have cleared up the connection problems I was having with kernels > 2.4.17 |

I created also some scripts for this device (uploading+converting music and generating of playlists). If somebody interested it is at http://cihar.liten.cz/diva |

It works under RH8.0 (2.4.18-17.8.0) and under 2.4.18-17.7.x
for RH7.x.
It works under <=2.4.19pre1.
It does NOT work on 2.4.19-pre2 and many of the later
ones, including RH7.3 kernel 2.4.18-5, 2.4.19-rc3 and
2.4.19-rc2-ac2.

This works without problems with kernels < 2.4.19pre2. For 2.4.19pre2 and later you need my little patch - http://cihar.liten.cz/usb-hub.patch. |

The diva (usb-storage) works fine with Redhat 8.0. I have had problems with 7.3 (middle 2.4.18 redhat kernels) and more recent such as 2.4.19-rc5. It DOES work on winxp and linux (2.4.17 and 2.4.9 (redhat 7.2)) and now Redhat 8.0. |

To get the Diva MP3 player working under Linux you must have a model with the internal memory (such as the current "W" series).
I recently purchased a MP3000V only to discover after 3 days of trying everything
to get it recognised by a 2.4.18 kernel, that these earlier models with no internal
memory (ie: Just a card slot) will not be recognised as a USB device under Linux.
The tech support guys at www.mydivaplayer.com were very helpful and supportive of Linux (hence support on the new models). I very highly recommend this *tiny* mp3 player and recorder. Once working it makes a fantastic flash card reader for anyone with a compact flash digital camera. |

It's working fine with 2.4.7 kernel and with the internal memory of DIVA.
But.
First I was able to write the flash without problem. Then I deleted the music, and tried to copy some other MP3 files. I was unable to do that. The mc or the cp command showed me, it is copied successfull. But when I checked. the mp3 was half copied. I couldn't copy back from DIVA to HDD. It seems the player didn't delete the file. (I have checked, and this is working udner windows ME or 2000 without problem)

I just got my Diva, and it's great! Works with Linux like a charm. Once I compiled the right modules into the kernel, I added a line to /etc/fstab for the device (USB storage devices show up as SCSI, so for me it's /dev/sdb1). Now, I can just plug it in and mount /diva!
(I wonder if the makers of the Diva carefully considered what the Unix commands would be to interact with their device)

This device also acts as a Compact Flash reader/writer for your Linux box. Cool. About $75 depending on options http://www.mydivaplayer.com |
